HEALTH
Protecting the most disadvantaged from disease

Although many NGOs are contributing to the development of a reliable medical system in Togo, there is still a great deal to be done to guarantee a minimum level of care for common pathologies and childbirth. Dilapidated infrastructures, a shortage of medical staff, the cost of basic medicines and the complexity of Togo's bureaucracy are all obstacles to the establishment of an adequate medical system. Undernourishment, malaria, STIs and complications from infected wounds are commonplace, and their consequences for at-risk populations can be dramatic.
People in difficult social situations (orphans, handicapped people, people suffering from addictions or disabilities) are also left to fend for themselves. Although orphanages, social services and establishments for disabled children exist, it is very difficult for these populations to envisage social reintegration. They receive no financial assistance from the state, and are more often than not excluded and left to fend for themselves once they reach adulthood.
The aim of this project is to offer professionals and students in the healthcare and social services sectors an extraordinary human experience. By lending your support to health establishments or social services, you will learn in direct contact with the field. You'll discover the reality of the Togolese medical and social system, while having the opportunity to reach out to the most disadvantaged. You'll be able to exchange ideas with your Togolese counterparts, creating unforgettable friendships in the process.
As part of this project, we work with hospitals, clinics, medical-social centers, dispensaries, homes for the disabled, speech therapy centers, social services, schools and orphanages.
Our missions:
- To help provide medical and social care for the most disadvantaged populations. Provide expertise to local staff. Learn from professionals in Togo's health and social sector.
- Develop awareness-raising activities on certain subjects for the populations concerned, such as young people with regard to contraception and STIs, pregnant women, or relatives of people suffering from disabilities or social exclusion.
- Bringing comfort and kindness to those left behind. Development of activities in social centers, educational support, social reintegration programs, creation of vacation camps for orphans. Development of sponsorship programs.
- Setting up a village pharmacy. This facility will provide access to first aid in remote villages.
