EDUCATION

Transmit and facilitate access to education

Children at school

To get to class, children in Kuma Canton must travel long distances on rough roads. The lack of teachers is also a problem that villagers courageously address through volunteer work. But faced with school fees (supplies and uniforms), families often prefer to keep children at home so they can participate in the collective effort in the fields. Absenteeism and school dropouts are very common, and few adolescents complete secondary school, the equivalent of a baccalaureate. Worse still, care for orphans, children with disabilities, or those in social care is virtually nonexistent. As a result, the professional prospects of all these children remain severely limited, preventing them from aspiring to a better future.

Patience Asso-Togo is implementing an academic support project that includes providing support for disadvantaged children (tuition fees, supplies, uniforms) through financial and material donations. Evening classes and reading sessions are also offered to students experiencing academic difficulties. Foreign language classes, which previously did not exist, are now being offered in middle schools, and we hope to plan and implement an academic and career guidance program so that young people have the opportunity to leave the agricultural sector if they wish. Also as part of this project, we aim to offer outreach programs for young girls and couples in high schools, neighborhoods, hospitals, and community centers, with the aim of educating and raising awareness about gender equality, contraception, and methods of protection against STIs.

Beyond Togolese youth, we also wish to support teachers through knowledge sharing and collaboration, as well as by providing additional resources and skills, and through training in caring for children with disabilities, always with the aim of ensuring a better level of education for all.

This education project therefore has two objectives: to reduce absenteeism and school dropouts for young people by facilitating or enabling access to education, and to strengthen and enrich the content of the teaching provided in local facilities (primary schools, middle schools, high schools, social care homes, orphanages, and hospitals).

Our missions:

- Enable continuous access to education for all, including the most disadvantaged, the most isolated, and those with disabilities.

- Establish a cooperative relationship between Togolese teachers and French volunteers, through listening and exchange, in order to strengthen and diversify (in content, resources, and means) the training provided in schools in the Kuma canton.

- The implementation of after-school activities to facilitate transportation, help new generations plan for the future, and support students experiencing academic, financial, or health-related difficulties.

- Enabling access to education through the establishment of a library.
